Hairdressing Students Give Local Man the Chop for Charity Event
Level 2 Hairdressing students from Rotherham College have recently taken part in a charity fundraiser for The Carlton Resource Centre, a day centre for men and women with disabilities.
The fundraiser involved Damian Morter, a care support worker and film maker from Barnsley who wanted to cut his hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust; a charity that provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.
In 2009 Damian was diagnosed with alopecia and for two years lost all of his hair before it began to grow back. Damian said, “It felt good to donate my hair and not just throw it away. It’s a small gesture that makes a big impact.”
Six Hairdressing students were involved in the event, each finding the process very exciting and informative. Somayeh, a Hairdressing student who assisted at the fundraiser said, “It’s interesting and a good experience for us – it’s been fun and helped us to improve our skills as we’ve learnt how to prepare the hair.”
