T Levels

New technical based qualifications preparing students for work, further training or study

We will be delivering T Levels from September 2023 which offer students a mixture of classroom learning and an industry placement of 315 hours (45 days) where you will be fully integrated into the workplace.

Applicants for Level 3 courses will be accepted onto either a Level 3 course or a T Level dependent on grades. Applications for T Levels will be made available soon for those wishing to apply for a T level. If you would like to apply, please follow the links below.

T Levels are two-year technical programmes, designed with employers, to give young people the practical skills and knowledge that industries need. The ‘T’ stands for technical and they are an alternative to A-levels. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A-levels and will be assessed using a mixture of practical tasks, projects and exams.

Students who achieve a T Level will get a nationally recognised certificate which employers will use as evidence in their recruitment.

We will be offering T Levels in:



Once you have completed a T Level course, you will be able to progress onto:

  • A skilled occupation
  • Higher or degree level apprenticeships
  • Further study including Higher Technical Qualifications or Higher Education

T Level qualifications are a composite technical study programme, aimed at preparing young people for work, higher level apprenticeships or higher education (HE).

They comprises of 3 key components: 

  • an approved technical qualification (TQ),
  • a substantial industry placement with an external employer
  • employability, enrichment and pastoral (EEP) elements

Studying a T Level means that learners will be able to develop core skills such as communication, team working, reflective practice, research methods and presentation skills.

English, mathematics and digital content are embedded and contextualised within the qualification content.

Industry Placement

Learners will be required to undertake an industry placement in a relevant setting for a minimum of 45 days (315 hrs).

The Technical Qualification comprises of:

  • Core component: this provides knowledge and understanding of the key concepts, theories and principles relevant to Construction
  • Occupational specialism component:  Surveying & Design for Construction and the Built Environment or Civil Engineering

Studying the Construction T Level, learners will be able to develop core skills such as communication, team working, reflective practice, research methods and presentation skills

  • health and safety
  • the science behind building design, surveying and planning
  • making accurate and appropriate measurements
  • construction methods
  • building regulations and standards
  • data management and information standards in construction
  • relationship management and customer service
  • how the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction

The Technical Qualification comprises of:

  • Core component: during the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of digital occupations.
    • how digital technologies impact business,
    • the ethical and moral implications of digital technology
    • using data in software design
    • using digital technologies to analyse and solve problems
    • digital environments, including physical, virtual and cloud environments
    • emerging technical trends, such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Blockchain, 3D printing
    • legal and regulatory obligations relating to digital technologies
    • the privacy and confidentiality of personal data
    • the technical, physical and human aspects of internet security
    • planning digital projects
    • testing software, hardware and data
    • digital tools for project management and collaboration
  • Occupational specialism component:  in addition to the core content, each student will also develop skills in digital production, design and development. The content will include:
    • analysing a problem to define requirements and acceptance criteria aligned to user needs
    • designing, implementing, and testing software
    • changing, maintaining and supporting software
    • creating solutions in a social and collaborative environment
    • discovering, evaluating, and applying reliable sources of knowledge
    • applying ethical principles and managing risks in line with legal and regulatory requirements when developing software

The Technical Qualification comprises of:

  • Core component: the core component provides a high-level foundation of knowledge and skills that are relevant to all occupational specialisms. The core component is not biased towards any particular occupational specialism component.
  • Occupational specialism component:  Early Years Educator, Assisting Teaching  or Supporting and Mentoring Students in Educational Settings

Content Knowledge:

Level 3 criteria can require students to analyse, draw conclusions, interpret or justify, which are all examples of higher-level skills and support progression and further learning.

  • self-directed study

  • thinking for yourself
  • analysing and synthesising information/materials
  • critical thinking and problem solving

The Technical Qualification comprises of:

  • Core component: this provides knowledge and understanding of the key concepts, theories and principles relevant to Adult Nursing
  • Occupational specialism component:  this provides knowledge skills and behaviours required to develop competencies supporting the Adult Nursing Team by assisting with clinical tasks, supporting individuals to meet activities of daily living and assist with skin integrity assessments with the care and treatment of skin conditions

Content Knowledge:

  • Working in the health care sector
  • Health safety and environmental regulations in the health care sector
  • Managing information in the health care sector
  • Managing personal information
  • Providing person centred care
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Good scientific and clinical practice
  • Safeguarding

Specialist Knowledge and Skills:

  • Assist with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing
  • Assist registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions
  • Undertake a range of physiological measurements
  • Assist the adult nursing team with clinical tasks
  • Support individuals to meet activities of daily living
  • Assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions
