ESOL student - Denis Pena Pena De Bishop

Denis Pena Pena De Bishop started her role at the hotel in the Summer, and was nominated by ESOL’s Interim Curriculum Manager Katie Curtis. Denis started her ESOL course in September and has flourished ever since.

At the beginning of Denis’ ESOL course, she could hardly speak any English, however, through attending her classes she improved her speaking and gained employment in Sheffield town centre.

Denis started studying for her Entry 1 Speaking and Listening and then went on to study her Entry 3 Reading and Entry 2 Writing in the same academic year.

Whilst studying, Denis’ confidence grew and she soon developed the correct skills for interviews, CVs, and job applications. She was successful at Novotel, where she won her award for her fantastic achievements. Katie Curtis stated she was extremely proud.

She said: ‘’I’m really proud of what Denis has achieved. She put so much effort into her studies to learn the English language, it just shows what you can achieve when you are determined.

‘’Our ESOL courses are not only designed to help improve English speaking and listening, reading and writing, they will also help develop digital skills and Employability skills for the future.’’
