How to Unlock Your Potential

4 January 2022

‘New year, new me!’ – put your hands up if you’re not a fan. Okay, you can put them down now. Odds are, you hear this from friends’ social posts, or maybe your local gym is taken over by people with no idea how to workout performing what can only be described as ‘experimental exercises’!

People often think making a big change means diving into the unknown and replacing plans with passion. We say, why not both? 2022 can be your year. But if it’s going to be one you’re proud of, you’ll need to get your head around how to pair passion with a plan to succeed at whatever you want to do. Oh, and did we tell you that your success is at the centre of everything we do? So, you’ve come to the right place for advice!

Let’s have a look at how you can unlock your potential.

Ready…

First things first: pinpoint your passion(s). If you feel like you don’t have any, think again! We all have favourite things we like to do. What do you enjoy? What drives you? What can you do a bunch of, and have time race by? Good news – those are your passions. And the word ‘your’ is very important here. Whatever you like, it involves how it makes you think and feel. Nobody else. Just you. Once you know what you like, you’re ready to move to the next step…

Set…

So, you know what you’re passionate about. That’s great! But what can you do with your passion(s)? The word ‘do’ is very vague, so think of it instead as ‘achieve’ and ‘change’. What would you like to achieve for yourself with your passion, and what change would you like to make with it that can help things more intangible – whether that’s places, people, or processes.

When you know this, you’re set to succeed, and you can start discovering and discussing how to use your passion(s) to reach you ‘achieve’ and ‘change’ goals. At this point, we recommend you get in touch with our friendly Learner Recruitment Officers, or Schools Liaison team, or have a look at our guide, or even online at sites like Target Careers and National Careers Service. Doing this means you’ll be able to see what jobs and careers match up with what you want to do.

When you know what area you want to work in job-wise, we can then help you pair that up with a course tailored to your interests. We have plenty of courses, and there’s a good chance one or more of them can help you unlock your potential.

Go!

By this stage, you know:

  • Your passion(s)
  • What you want to ‘achieve’ and ‘change’
  • What sort of jobs mean you can reach your goals
  • What course(s) open the door to your ideal job(s)

Now, the bit that can be daunting. Taking that first ‘real’ step. The step that includes you committing to a path. We hope that, by following our advice of ‘Ready’, ‘Set’, ‘Go!’, this decision will make you more excited than nervous. And, if you need any more advice like financial, study support, travel or more, then you can find it all on our website or by getting in touch with us.

We wish you the very best and hope that 2022 is your year.
