Rotherham College is proud to support the national ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign running as part of Colleges Week from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October.

The campaign emphasises the importance of Colleges in driving communities’ talents and ambitions whilst highlighting the need for investment in the Further Education sector. During the week, colleges across the country will be showcasing the brilliant stuff they do and the brilliant staff that make it all possible. It is a chance to celebrate and shout about all of the amazing things that colleges do, day in and day out to build communities, boost businesses, and support individuals. The inspiring way colleges have responded to the challenges thrown up by COVID-19 means that there will be even more inspiring and impressive stories to tell than ever before.

Alongside every other college in the country, Rotherham College has had to deal with an overall cut of 30% to funding over the last decade. September’s spending review needs to recognise this by significant new investment in colleges, including:

  • A cash injection of £450m for 16-18 education to;
  • A boost of £250m for adult education and training; and
  • New capital investment of £240m for IT, new kit & equipment and to reflect the growing numbers of young people studying in colleges.

Jason Austin, CEO and Principal for the RNN Group, backs the campaign for a boost in Further Education funding.

“Seeing the life changing impact of our colleges to thousands of students and apprentices every year is so rewarding. During Love Our Colleges Week we are celebrating the hard work and achievements of our learners and staff and the excellent relationships we have with employers and other external partners. This year we also celebrate and shine a spotlight on our resilience through the global pandemic and our continued commitment to education, despite the challenges we have all faced.”

“Jason Austin, CEO and Principal for the RNN Group”

RNN Group’s family of colleges (Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College) continue to deliver top-class learning in dedicated facilities. Important skills are taught by industry-experienced tutors. RNN Group’s staff continue to devote their professionalism and passion to working in education environments.

Gathering national support, the campaign is led by The Association of Colleges in partnership with the National Union of Students, Association of College and School Leaders, University and Colleges Union, Unison, GMB, TUC and National Educations Union.
