Computing – James

23 May 2022

James is a Computing and Digital student that has progressed from Level 3 to a Higher Education course in Computing and Systems Development.

James decided to study locally and progress to dedicated degree-centre, University Centre Rotherham (UCR) to stay closer to home and focus on one particular subject area.

James said,

“If I’d chosen to study A-Levels, I would have had to spread my time across two or three subject areas that may not have necessarily been valuable for what I want to do as a career.

James Wood, BSc (Hons) Computing and Systems Development

“I’ve always had a passion for computing and wanted to work towards a job role in the IT or digital sector, so I knew that by studying at Rotherham College I would be able to develop more tailored skills in areas such as e-commerce and digital marketing.”

During his studies, James has been able to progress to degree-level through smaller class sizes and one-to-one support from tutors, as well as benefit from reduced tuition fees compared to other universities offering similar computing courses.

As James comes closer to completing his course at UCR, James has thoughts on completing a Masters within the next two years, whilst seeking employment in digital marketing.

James added,

“Because I’ve had the opportunity to focus my studies on learning more about different forms of online advertising, predicting trends and augmented reality, I’ve decided to dedicate my dissertation to how research on these topics can be used by companies to market products.

“This kind of invaluable experience I would not have been able to get without the great facilities available on campus as well as tutor availability that have supported me from Level 3 to Level 6.”
