Yorkshire Air Ambulance Inspires Students at Rotherham College
Students at Rotherham College were given a fascinating insight into the life-saving work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance during a special visit to The Wharncliffe building yesterday.
The charity delivered an engaging talk to students from Business, Aviation and Health courses, highlighting the vital role the service plays across the region and the difference it makes to people facing medical emergencies.
During the session, the team explained how the air ambulance operates and shared examples of the critical incidents they attend across Yorkshire. Students learned how the service enables a rapid response to serious injuries and medical situations, often reaching remote or difficult to access locations when every second counts.

One of the key messages shared with students was that the service is funded entirely by public support. Unlike many emergency services, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance receives no direct government funding and relies fully on donations and fundraising to continue operating its helicopters and medical teams.
As well as showcasing their work, the team also encouraged everyone to download the what3words app. The app divides the world into small squares and assigns each one a unique three word address, making it much easier to pinpoint an exact location.
Rotherham College for example is ///quench.sheet.notion.

Students were told that in the event of a medical emergency, whether they are the person needing help or a witness to an incident, providing a three word location through the what3words app can help 999 operators and emergency services quickly identify exactly where help is needed.
The visit gave students an opportunity to learn more about the real world impact of emergency response services and the importance of community support for charities that save lives every day.
Rotherham College would like to thank the Yorkshire Air Ambulance team for taking the time to visit and inspire students, while also raising awareness of how everyone can play a part in supporting their life saving work.
