Graphics Student Wins Children’s Capital of Culture Design Competition
A talented Graphics student from Rotherham College is celebrating success after being named the overall winner of a design competition for the Children’s Capital of Culture (CCOC).
Macy Beddows impressed the judging panel with her creative submission, which captured the vibrant and youthful spirit of two major local events, the Signals Music Festival and the Roots Rotherham Street Carnival.
The CCOC team praised the high standard of entries submitted by Rotherham College students, but ultimately selected Macy’s design because it perfectly reflected the energy, colour and creativity associated with the festivals.

Macy’s winning artwork will now help represent the celebrations connected to the Children’s Capital of Culture programme, showcasing the creativity of young people across the borough.
This achievement adds to Macy’s growing list of creative successes. Her artwork has already reached an international audience after she was commissioned to design the cover for the latest album ‘A Matter Of Time’ by the band Fun Lovin’ Criminals.
The band, best known for their hit track Scooby Snacks, discovered Macy’s work on Instagram when drummer Frank Benbini came across artwork she had shared while promoting her own band, The Kostanzas. Impressed by her distinctive style, the band commissioned her to create the album cover, meaning her artwork is now seen by fans around the world.

Macy’s success highlights the incredible creative talent being developed at Rotherham College, where students are encouraged to explore their ideas, build professional portfolios and gain real-world industry experience.
