ESAB Brings Welding Innovation to Rotherham College
Rotherham College was delighted to welcome welding and fabrication specialists ESAB as part of their European roadshow, giving our students the opportunity to see some of the latest welding technologies in action.
Travelling from Sweden, ESAB’s impressive demonstration lorry has been touring across Europe, showcasing developments in welding, personal protective equipment (PPE) and workshop safety. The specially designed vehicle expands to almost three times its travelling size, creating a spacious exhibition area filled with equipment, demonstrations and expert advice.
What made this visit particularly special was that Rotherham College was the only educational institution included on ESAB’s UK itinerary during their two-week stay in the country. This gave our students a rare opportunity to get up close to the latest equipment and learn directly from industry professionals.
Throughout the event, students were introduced to a range of welding technologies, including traditional arc welding systems and the latest laser welding solutions. ESAB’s specialists explained the benefits of each process and how they are used in different industries, including discussions around initial investment costs and the long-term efficiencies that modern welding technologies can offer. These conversations helped students gain a better understanding of how the industry is evolving and the skills employers are looking for.

The showcase also focused on workplace safety, with demonstrations of the latest PPE and ventilation systems designed to create cleaner and healthier workshop environments. Safety is a key part of any welding career, and students were able to see how modern equipment is helping to improve working conditions across the industry.
Students were also interested in ESAB’s range of mobile welding equipment, which is designed for engineers working away from the workshop. From farm repairs to on-site maintenance work, these systems highlighted the variety of environments in which welding skills can be applied.
Seeing industry-leading equipment first-hand not only builds enthusiasm for the sector but also gives learners valuable insight into the tools and technologies they may encounter in their future careers. Opportunities to engage with leading manufacturers help students develop their knowledge and confidence as they prepare to enter the industry.
The visit from ESAB was a great example of how working closely with industry partners can enhance the student experience and support future career development.
We would like to thank ESAB for choosing Rotherham College as part of their UK tour and for delivering such an engaging and informative event. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future.
