Aviation students take to the skies

16 October 2025

Aviation students at Rotherham College have been reaching new heights as part of their studies (quite literally!) by taking part in flying lessons included within their course curriculum.

As part of their course, learners have the exciting opportunity to take part in real flying lessons at Tollerton Airport in Nottingham. Under the guidance of qualified flight instructors, they get behind the controls of a light aircraft and experience the thrill of flight for themselves.

The flying lessons are an important part of the course, helping students connect the theory they’ve learned in the classroom with real-world practice. From understanding how weather affects flight paths to learning about aerodynamics and navigation, students get to see how their studies apply in a professional setting.

Many learners on the course dream of working in the aviation industry, whether as commercial pilots, air traffic controllers or cabin crew. These flying sessions give them an early insight into what it’s like to work in one of the most dynamic and exciting industries in the world.

By combining theory with practical experience, our Aviation courses give learners a strong foundation for progressing to higher education or directly into industry careers.
