Art and Graphic Design Students Collaborate with National Rail on Yorkshire Coastline Project
Rotherham College’s Art and Graphic Design students recently had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with Richard Issac from National Rail on a live design brief.
This exciting project tasked students with creating promotional posters to encourage rail travel to the stunning Yorkshire coastline. Their work will be displayed at key train stations, including Bridlington, Hull, Filey, and Rotherham.
The project kicked off with an inspiring visit to Bridlington, where students received their live brief courtesy of National Rail. During the session, they were introduced to the extensive career opportunities within the railway industry, highlighting the potential for future collaborations and professional pathways.
The talented students dedicated themselves to designing eye-catching posters that encapsulate the beauty and appeal of Yorkshire’s coastal destinations. Their hard work paid off, as their designs were well received and will soon be showcased at railway stations across the region, promoting sustainable travel by train.
As a reward for their outstanding efforts, the students were treated to an exclusive VIP trip to London by rail. This unforgettable experience included a personal guided tour of the Houses of Parliament and a meeting with local MP Sarah Champion. The students had the unique chance to discuss important issues and gain insights into how their voices could be heard at a governmental level.
The trip also included a visit to the Tim Burton exhibition at the Design Museum, providing further artistic inspiration and a chance to explore innovative creative work. Before returning home, the group enjoyed VIP treatment at Kings Cross Station, where they met Richard Issac in the exclusive waiting area – an ideal way to end an enriching and memorable day in the capital.
This collaboration with National Rail not only showcased the exceptional talent of Rotherham College’s Art and Graphic Design students but also reinforced the invaluable connections between education, industry, and career development. The project highlights the importance of real-world experience in creative education, giving students an edge as they prepare for their future careers.
