Our Computing and Digital courses are designed specifically to give you a better understanding of the real-world practical and hands-on technical skills needed for a successful career in IT. We also offer courses in Games Animation and Esports (delivered at Dearne Valley College).

These courses provide opportunities for students to develop a range of computing skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for a successful career.

You’ll learn from tutors with a broad range of industry experience who are passionate about developing the next generation of digital experts.

As well as gaining the knowledge and tools you’ll need to succeed in the industry, you’ll develop wider transferable skills sought after by employers including problem-solving, creativity and research.

If you are interested in discovering and learning about subjects in computing and IT, such as programming, website development, graphics and cyber security, then this is the area for you. We will introduce you to general Internet Technologies used in the computing & IT industry. You will learn about wide uses of technology, virtualized server hardware, computer systems and web development.

If you have a passion for information and computing, the job opportunities are endless and in high-demand for talented qualified practitioners. These qualifications also help to ensure that you have the breadth and depth of skills required to progress to employment, self-employment, an apprenticeship, or Higher Education. Possible careers include a Cyber Security Professional, Digital Marketer, Networking Engineer, IT Technician, Software Programmer, Software Engineer, Technical Support or a Web Developer.

Telecom Engineer

Average salary - £34,400*

Telecom Engineers work on satellite, digital TV and fibre optic systems, and install
broadband, mobile and landline phone networks.

Day-to-day tasks:

Set up mobile and fixed communications and data networks, repair lines and
equipment on mobile masts and antennae, lay and test underground and underfloor
cabling, find and fix faults including remotely using specialist software, design, build and test components and equipment, communicate with customers and businesses and update work records.**

Working environments:

At a clients home or at a clients business.

Web Designer

Average salary - £31,200*

Web Designers use their creative and technical skills to design new websites and redesign existing ones.

Day-to-day tasks:

Maintain and develop websites, meet clients to develop website styles, analyse statistics about who is using the website, write reports for managers and report technical projects to IT support staff.**

Working environments:

Office settings, from home or a client’s business.
