This course is designed for spray operators and pest control technicians who require a certificate of competence for pesticide spraying using a Knapsack Sprayer. Upon successful completion, candidates receive an NPTC Level Two Award. The qualification is issued for life, though the NPTC recommends refresher training every three to four years.
You will study how to: ? Prepare a handheld pesticide applicator for work, calibrate it, and operate it safely to ensure the correct application rate without risk to yourself, others, or the environment. ? Read and use information on product labels to determine approved uses, potential hazards to human safety, non-target areas, and the general environment. ? Carry out daily and routine maintenance on the handheld pesticide applicator. ? Perform correct cleaning procedures for personal protective equipment (PPE) and application equipment contaminated with pesticides.
You will get hands-on experience and benefit from the agriculture facilities on campus.
You must be a minimum of 16 years old and must have successfully achieved the Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides – Foundation Unit (PA1) prior to attending this course.

Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides Ground Crop Sprayer PA2 Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides Slug Pellet PA4
This course is ideal for individuals aged 16 and over whose job involves applying professional pesticide products. It is highly suited for those currently working, or looking to work, in sectors where pesticides are utilised, such as agriculture, amenity/industrial, aquatic, forestry, and horticulture. You will be required to read chemical manufacturer guides and undertake an online exam. NPTC regulations do not allow candidates to have a reader for the exam. You will also need to bring specific clothing and equipment: a Type 6 limited splash coverall, nitrile rubber gloves (0.5mm thick, 300mm long), wellies, and a faceshield.
