Access to HE: Health Science Professions – Amana
When Amana Seyth enrolled in the Access to HE: Health Science Professions course at Rotherham College, she did not expect a roller coaster ride. Though she started late and believed she would have some trouble adjusting to the new environment and making friends, she was amazed by the support from the teachers and how quickly she found the best of buddies in her class.
The course is designed to equip the students with the fundamental knowledge, skills and behaviours required to help them progress to the next steps to become the Social Workers, Nurses, Midwives, Paramedics and the Allied Health Professionals of the future.
Throughout her journey at the College, Amana engaged in many academic and extra-curricular activities including the role of Student Governor which helped to build her confidence and interpersonal skills.
When Amana completed her studies, she saw an uphill task of applying to different universities for Higher Education courses. This is where the teachers really supported her and encouraged her to apply to five universities of her choice. She was unsure if she would be able to do well in the university interview, so her tutor recommended that a discussion with a member of the careers team would be beneficial.
Amana booked her appointment and had the most fruitful of conversations. Amana took on board the advice and the outcome was beyond her own expectations – she got offers from all five universities.
Sharing Amana’s case study is the best way for the College to celebrate National Careers Week, inspiring young learners to follow their dreams. With the knowledge and skills learned from the College and the newly gained confidence from the Adult Careers coaching, Amana is all set to pursue her Health Professional course in Higher Education where she will shine even brighter.
