The Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) – Teaching Assistant course has been designed to support individuals who are interested in beginning a career within the education sector.
The programme provides learners with the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, develop the employability skills required by schools and employers, and increase their confidence when applying for Teaching Assistant roles.
Working as a Teaching Assistant can be a rewarding career path, offering the chance to make a positive difference to the educational experiences and outcomes of children and young people.
This programme aims to equip learners with both the practical knowledge of working within a school environment and the essential skills needed to secure employment.
The course combines two Level 1 qualifications, alongside tailored employability support and a guaranteed interview opportunity with an employer.
The programme aims to:
- Introduce learners to the role and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant.
- Develop an understanding of how schools operate and the importance of safeguarding children and young people.
- Build confidence in applying for employment within the education sector.
- Improve job-search, application and interview skills.
- Support progression into Teaching Assistant vacancies, apprenticeships, volunteering opportunities, or further study.
- Enable learners to identify and showcase their strengths, experiences and transferable skills.
