HN Flex is a flexible, modular study mode for Higher National (HN) qualifications (such as HNCs and HNDs) in the UK Further Education and Higher Education sectors. HN Flex allows students to study individual units or “bite-sized” short courses from established Level 4 (Certificate) and Level 5 (Diploma) qualifications without having to commit to a full degree programme upfront.

Modules offered for Animal Management:

Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Animal Management (Animal Behaviour and Welfare):

  •  Unit 1 – Animal health and welfare – 15 credit
  •  Unit 2 – Business and business environment – 15 credits
  •  Unit 3 – Managing a successful project – 15 credits

Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Animal Management (Animal Behaviour and Welfare):

  •   Unit 25 – Anthrozoology  – 15 credits
  •   Unit 33 – Breeding and genetics  – 15 credits
  •  Unit 23 – Biological principles  – 15 credits

At Dearne Valley College, you will gain hands-on experience working with a wide range of domesticated and exotic animals within our specialist Animal Management Centre. Practical learning is embedded throughout the course to prepare you for real industry environments.

Applicants are typically expected to have:

  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in Animal Management or a related subject
  •  GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
  •   Appropriate industry experience may also be considered
