Hair and Beauty – Jessica Bloor

23 May 2022

Jessica had originally planned for a career in law, but after realising that A-Levels weren’t for her, she started searching for a more creative vocation and began working on make-up counters for brands including Benefit and Nars. Since then, she has launched a successful beauty business and has continued learning to expand her skillset.

We caught up with Jessica to find out more about her journey so far.

Jessica says: “I was failing my A-Levels and my careers advisor suggested looking into beauty because I was interested in make-up. It wasn’t something I’d previously considered but I went on to work on beauty counters and then went to college to get my beauty qualifications.

“I’ve now had my own business for three years doing lash extensions, brows, make-up and nails. I love being self-employed; I get to decide what hours I work and can experiment with colouring and lashes and make-up – it’s a really creative industry to work in.

“It’s been tricky trying to strike a balance between working and making enough money to pay the bills and training in hairdressing, but the tutors at College have been very understanding and supportive.”

Jessica Bloor, Level 2 in Hairdressing

“I wanted to expand my business offering, so last year I completed a Media Make-up course, and chose to come back to College this year to do Level 2 Hairdressing to learn cutting and colouring skills too.

“It’s been tricky trying to strike a balance between working and making enough money to pay the bills and training in hairdressing, but the tutors at College have been very understanding and supportive. I’ve also received financial support with fuel to get to college and for kit and uniform too which has been really helpful.”
