Japanese Students Showcase Traditional Geisha Look for Rotherham College Students

18 December 2017

In November eight students from Toyo Hair Designer College in Japan visited Rotherham College with their Principal and teacher for two days to exchange skills, information and to experience different cultures with students from Fashion and Hair and Beauty.

On their first day they took part in tasks designed to build their language and communication skills by socialising and working with Rotherham College students. During the second day the Japanese students created a traditional full Geisha look to showcase their skills to the Rotherham College students and staff and to teach about their culture and traditions.

The Principal of Toyo Hair and Designer College commented “The best thing was that the students from the English and Japanese colleges were able to communicate and exchange information on the latest fashion trends and technical information. Japan is more westernised now so to bring our students to show traditional culture and skills to Rotherham College students is a great opportunity and fantastic to do.”

Toyo Hair Designer College students said “It’s interesting and impressive to see and meet in person students of a similar age and get to know their current information, trends and thoughts. Everyone has been very kind and it’s interesting because they have different ways of thinking and seeing things.”

Rotherham College is working to arrange for further groups of students to take part in future exchanges and hope to create more exciting new opportunities with the Japanese College.
