Students go GAGA at National Youth Dance Performance

28 February 2019

Rotherham College Level 3 Dance students have put on an exciting show by performing in Nexus, a national youth dance platform in partnership with U.Dance 2019. Schools, colleges and community groups collaborated to create a festival of dance held at Hall Cross Academy, Doncaster.

The Level 3 UAL Dance students at Rotherham College performed in the ‘Lady Gaga’ and ‘The Nutcracker!’ routines, showcasing their skills and techniques from across ballet, contemporary, commercial and jazz styles.

Ben Wainwright, Dance Lecturer at Rotherham College, said: “Every student presented themselves with professionalism, dedication and represented college very proudly.
“This is a perfect example of how we give our students enriching performance opportunities and industry level training and experiences. These exciting student experiences are what draw students to our ever growing and exciting dance course.”

Eleanor McKenzie, a Level 3 UAL Dance student took part in the ‘Lady Gaga’ and ‘The Nutcracker!’ routines. She said, “It was a great experience as you get to watch other schools routines and different types of dance.”

Leah Fenton, another Level 3 UAL Dance student also took part in both routines. Leah said, “We had a two week deadline to create these performances ready for the Nexus Festival.
“The most exciting part about Nexus was debuting our work from College to a new audience from a different area of the community.”

Leah added advice on taking part, saying: “Definitely take part, even for the opportunity as it allows you to see different people and their talents. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and become familiar with their school and talents.”

You can see all the Level 3 Musical Theatre and Dance performances in the ‘End of Year Showcase’ in the Studio Theatre, Rotherham College this May.
