Rotherham and Dearne Valley Colleges Make a Big Bang at Annual Careers Fair

08 July 2019

Rotherham and Dearne Valley Colleges were both in attendance at the annual Big Bang Careers Fair held at Doncaster Racecourse. The aim of the fair is to bring science, technology, engineering and maths alive to school students in the Yorkshire and Humber area.

Engineering curriculum staff from Rotherham College were in attendance and brought their subject to life by getting school students involved in interactive games, explaining the benefits of studying engineering and the career pathways this can lead into.

Motor Vehicle curriculum staff from Dearne Valley College brought both hybrid and electric vehicles into the exhibition hall, demonstrating to students how the College was keeping up-to-date with the latest technologies in the automotive sector. In addition, they provided interactive activities in Body Repair, where students were able to damage car body panels and then see first-hand how these would be repaired.

Claire Evans, Curriculum Team Leader for Motor Vehicle said, “The Motor Vehicle Team from Dearne Valley College was showcased both Accident Body Repair and Hybrid/Electric Vehicles at the Big Bang Event. We feel the day was a success with nonstop interest for the electric vehicles and the components. We also had constant queues to take part in the panel beating activity. It was interesting to know that the learners no matter of their age, were really thinking about their future and this event was helping them to find out which career path to take.”

Rebecca Hepworth, Schools Liaison Officer, said “It was great seeing so many school students of all groups getting involved in our interactive activities at the Big Bang Fair. Seeing so many youngsters engage in STEM activities and wanting to find out more about the courses available to them made the event really enjoyable and informative for all involved.”
