Accounting Student Climbs Career Ladder

1 May 2019

Level 3 Accounting student David has progressed from studying his Level 2 Accounting course, after leaving his job as a Compliance Team Leader.

David said, “Even though I wasn’t particularly happy in my role, I realised that I enjoyed the finance and claims side of my responsibilities, so I decided to find out what I could study to develop my skills and secure I job I was passionate about.”

After attending an Open Event at Rotherham College, David chose to study a Level 2 and eventually a Level 3 course in Accountancy, developing skills such as handling financial statements and records.

Within two years of study, David has now secured his first accountancy role as Assistant Accountant for Outwood Grange Academies Trust. His responsibilities include liaising with the Director of Finance, preparing budgets and developing financial reports.

David said, “If I didn’t choose to study at Rotherham College, I would not have even got a foot in the door for an interview. The qualifications and support I received from my tutors helped me gain the right tools, the right experience and the underpinning knowledge that I otherwise wouldn’t have to advance in my new career path.”

“I’ve only just started the role and it may be a challenging first six months to get to grips with things, but it’s a challenge that I welcome and know that I’ll enjoy.”
