The catering and hospitality sector employ over 2 million people in the UK, covering bars, restaurants, hotels, cafes and contract catering; and its worth a whopping £4.5 billion to the economy. Many roles are dealing with the public, and so good people skills and an ability to remain calm are key skills in this industry.
There are clear progression paths and you often have the opportunity to develop business skills and experience as you climb up the ladder. Running your own business is also a common occurrence in this sector, such as owning hotels or restaurants or as a catering supplier. People with these skills also have plenty of opportunity to travel and work in holiday destinations all over the world, so carving a career in this sector provides a large number of possibilities.

The Hospitality & Catering Department has a number of innovative and exciting courses that can be tailored to your needs. We have programmes to suit all from the novice chef to a chef wanting to enhance their cookery skills at Level Three. We are part of The World Skills organisation, if you are selected and are successful you could travel to destinations across the globe and compete against other chefs. We have an exciting curriculum where you are given the opportunity to develop your key skills and behaviours throughout the academic year. Rotherham college are an OFSTED Good in 2023.
