Maltby Lions present award for ‘Student of the Year’
Local fundraising organisation Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions demonstrated their support within the area when they presented their Student of the Year Award to Thomas Mullins.
Thomas received the award for the progression he demonstrated throughout his studies on the Level 3 Certificate in Furniture and Cabinet Making. This was also combined with a bursary cheque for £200 in order to help with the costs of study materials and equipment in preparation for his enrolment at the University of Buckingham where he will be studying Furniture Design. The award was presented by the President of the Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions Mr Alf Seeley who congratulated Thomas on his success and his hard work throughout the year. Mr Seeley explained, ‘We were delighted to present this award to Thomas in recognition for his efforts and success. I hope he is able to contact us in the future and let us know how he is getting on at University. We wish him the best of luck for the future.” When asked on his thoughts on receiving such recognition, Thomas said, “I’m really happy to have received this award. It feels great and the bursary will help me to pay for the tools I need for my university course.” Thomas’ dream for the future is to open his own business producing one-off pieces of bespoke furniture. Paul Bloor, Head of Customer Services/Rother Valley Campus Manager was delighted with Thomas’ enthusiasm and motivation. “We feel extremely proud to see our students doing so well. This is a fantastic achievement for Thomas and one that will greatly increase his confidence.” “I’m sure it will not be long before he makes his mark on the world within the fine furniture industry and we wish him the well in his future career.” Mr Bloor also thanked the Maltby Rother Valley Lions for their continuous support throughout the years and for the “generous award that will ease Thomas’ transition into Higher Education.”
