‘A Clockwork Orange’ performed at Sheffield’s Brightside Project

Rotherham College of Arts and Technology and the Open Door Theatre Company have joined forces to create a memorable theatre performance at Sheffield’s Brightside Project venue.

‘A Clockwork Orange’ by Antony Burgess will be performed towards the end of April by cast members made up of theatre company actors and BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts students. This hard hitting production will challenge the cast to test their acting abilities and reflect the Open Door Theatre artistic policy: ‘To provide an innovative, quality theatre experience through imaginative, modern and contemporary drama to entertain and where appropriate, challenge audiences.’ Open Door nurtures and encourages new acting talents offering guidance and support for those who wish to enter into the industry. The production has provided the College students with the opportunity to develop their experience and benefit from a series of professional workshops preparing them for their performance. Barbara Bentley, Open Door Artistic Director said; “We are proud to be working with some of the raw talent from Rotherham College of Arts and Technology. Jason Johnson who is playing the main role of Alex is an inspiration to all aspiring actors out there. His sheer hard working ethics and determination have inspired a lot of the other students who are involved in the play either front or back of house. Their ability to take direction and be flexible within their methods is inspirational.” Philippa Debono, Open Door Theatre Company Actor said; “All the students who are involved in this project have been truly amazing and have worked so hard to accomplish a successful production that would normally take months to put together within only a matter of weeks. We have all worked really hard and when the students come together as cast and crew, they are professional every step of the way.” Lisa Newman, spokesperson for Rotherham College of Arts and Technology said; “Working with the Open Door Theatre Company has been a fantastic experience for our students and a great inclusion for their portfolios. We are extremely proud of the work they have put into this production and we wish them the best of luck with their performance.” ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is running 20th April – 25th April 2010 at 8.00pm and 28th April – 1st May 2010 at 8.00pm at the Brightside Project, Sheffield. Tickets are available from Showroom Workstation Box Office. £10.00 (full) / £8.00 (concessions) Visit www.showroomworkstation.org.uk or call 0114 275 7727.
