Work within the community
Students on the Prince’s Trust Team programme from Rotherham College of Arts and Technology have recently completed a community project at the Rosehill Victoria Park in Rawmarsh, Rotherham.
The group carried out a number of activities to improve the appearance of the park including; painting of the Games Pavillion brickwork and park railings along with general gardening and maintenance work. A fancy dress sponsored walk around Swinton was organised and carried out by the students in order to raise funds for the project and additional support was provided by Yorkshire Bank who awarded the group with a £150 contribution. Team member Aaron Deehan enjoyed his work on the project and expressed his enthusiasm towards the Prince’s Trust programme, “Community work is just up my street as I enjoy working outside of the classroom, especially if we are painting and doing something useful.” “I am the kind of person who likes to try new things so I am really enjoying it.” The finished results were well received by Julian Mullins, Urban Park Ranger for RMBC who said, “The pavilion really needed some TLC and I am really impressed. It was refreshing to see how enthusiastic the group were towards their work.” Prince’s Trust Team Leader for the College Jenny Upton explained, “This project was an exciting one as the work will benefit a wide range of members from the community who use the park. I hope this project will show the public the potential that young people have to offer.”
