Celebration of the first Prince’s Trust programme
Prince’s Trust students had something to celebrate after they recently became the first team to complete the 12 week programme.
The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a 12 week personal development course designed to build the confidence, motivation, skills and qualifications of young people aged 16-25 through a range of activities involving teamwork and work within the community. The programme aims to recruit a diverse and varied mix of team members from across all communities within Rotherham. Each Team member has the opportunity to work towards a number of nationally recognised qualifications as well as many other experiences that will greatly improve future prospects for employment, education and training. The team concluded the programme with a celebration event which they hosted at Rotherham’s Unity Centre where the Deputy Mayor of Rotherham, Rose McNeely was in attendance along with members of the Prince’s Trust and the College's Principal and Chief Executive, George Trow. The event was introduced by Mr Trow who congratulated the team on their achievements with particular reference to their community work at the Unity Centre and added, “As a college we are intensely proud to be involved with the Prince’s Trust. This is another fabulous strand to our work and we take our work very seriously.” The students then delivered a presentation to inform guests about the Prince’s Trust experience and how it has changed their lives for the better. Team member Andrew Hall explained, “The Prince’s Trust programme has benefited me in many ways. I have gained lots of confidence and feel that I have achieved something worthwhile.” The evening was brought to a close with a presentation of certificates to the students by Prince’s Trust Team Leader for the College Jennifer Upton who said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all the team members over the last 12 weeks. I am very proud of each one of them and what they have achieved. They have all gained and developed a number of employability skills as well as a vast amount of valuable experience that they can take with them for the future.”
