Roland Academy’s Ballot of the Bands winner announced!
Roland Academy’s ‘Ballot of the Bands’ music competition came to an exciting finish when the winning band was chosen.
Finalists included Count Me In, Kiss Track Comeback, Searching4Evidence and The Shakes and all acts performed their hearts out to a live crowd at Sheffield’s O2 Academy. The event was hosted by community radio station presenter Christian Carlisle and the winning band was Searching4Evidence - a four piece indie/rock band aged between 14 and 15 who are currently students at Ecclesfield School in Sheffield. After a 25 minute set, it was clear to see the band had won over the crowd with their performances of a number of original tracks as well as a couple of covers. When the announcement came, the young musicians proudly returned to the stage to be congratulated by David Barnard Head of Education for Roland UK who presented them with a portable Digital Recording Studio as part of their prize. Lead guitarist for the band Jack Eddison explained; “It feels amazing. It isn’t about the winning it was just a pleasure for us to play. We just love to perform and seeing people enjoy what we do.” The competition was organised by the College’s Roland Academy and has provided the opportunity for local musicians to demonstrate their talents and to develop their stage presence in front a live audience. The academy uses a range of state of the art musical equipment for our students to benefit from and on the night the crowd were entertained by a number of live demonstrations from Roland’s International Demonstrator, Craig Blundale who was able to explain how Roland equipment can be used to enhance musical performances. Martyn Howells, Performing Arts Curriculum Manager for the College explained; “Ballot of the Bands created a fantastic opportunity for the wider community to find out what the Roland Academy is and what facilities we have at the College for people to access. The competition has raised the profile of the Academy and has helped to promote life-long learning throughout South Yorkshire whilst encouraging the joy of performing to live audiences.”
