APSE Apprentice Awards Finalist
Plumbing apprentice Emma Pryce was one of the 16 finalists for the 2009 Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Apprentice Awards held in Stoke on Trent during November.
Emma is three quarters of the way through her four year apprenticeship with 2010 Rotherham Ltd where her day to day activities include plumbing and heating installation repairs within the Rotherham community. Emma explained, “I really enjoy what I do. People are always happy to see you when you are there to fix something!” Apprentices who were in the running for an award previously submitted a portfolio of work including progress report and references; followed by an interview with the APSE judges who quizzed the finalists on their ability to problem solve and their career ambitions for the future. Mark Bramah, Assistant Chief Executive of APSE explained that the awards were created to “recognise the vital contribution made by apprentices to the work of councils in helping to maintain and repair people's homes and civic buildings across the UK and to highlight individuals as the best apprentices." Unfortunately Emma was pipped to the post on this occasion within the female plumbing category, but was never the less proud of her achievement and described the awards ceremony as an “exciting experience” that has left her with the determination to improve on her success and to aim for the top spot next year.
