Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership students attend Fair Trade for Youth conference

Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership students attended a three day conference at Coventry University to explore Fair Trade issues.

The visit to the Fair Trade for Youth conference was funded by the Rotherham Fair Trade committee and provided the students with the opportunity to attend a number of lectures and take part in a variety of workshops where they were able to develop their knowledge on the ethical issues surrounding the subject. Alison Lomax, Catering and Hospitality lecturer for the College explained; “It is important that young people are aware of the issues that will influence the way they will work in their future careers. There are many issues surrounding the topic of fair trade that our learners will need to consider when they plan and execute their work in the catering and hospitality industry.” “Through the support of the Rotherham Fair Trade committee, these learners have been able to network with young people from across the country and discuss the matters in a wider context. They now have a broader understanding of the issue and will put all this knowledge into practice when hosting a charity Fair Trade black tie dinner at the College’s Wharncliffe Restaurant on 26th February 2010 as part of Fair Trade fortnight."
