Stranger danger talk provided at RVC nursery
Staff at the Rother Valley Campus Nursery believe it is never too early for children to be made aware of the stranger danger risks that can occur within today’s society.
To reinforce this message, they invited local Police Community Support Officer Ashley Hill from the Dinnington Safer Neighbourhood Team to come in and talk to the children. Officer Hill spoke with the group and advised them of what they should and should not do when approached by a stranger in any environment. He also provided a series of specially designed cartoons for the children to watch which emphasised the key safety messages in a way that they could easily understand. When questioned about presenting to groups of children at such a young age, Officer Hill explained, “It’s important for children to stay safe and to learn who they can and cannot trust and they need to know this as early as they can.” Rother Valley Nursery Manager Sally Huffen felt that the talk was a worthwhile experience for the group and added, “We want to promote the stranger danger aspect within our Nursery and feel that the children need to know what to do as early as possible in order to ensure their safety.”
