Catering team receive unionlearn Quality Award

The catering department were recently presented with the unionlearn Quality Award for the College’s NVQ course in Food Manufacture.

Unionlearn is a national organisation which is part of the Trades Union Congress and seeks to provide a supportive framework for unions to maximise their members’ life chances by providing access to high quality learning. The Quality Award is awarded to providers in the learning world who are committed to working with trade unions and who demonstrate that unions and union learners are considered in the design, development and delivery stages of courses and programmes. The College’s NVQ course in Food Manufacture is delivered within the workplace of Pennine Food Ingredients Ltd and has enabled both organisations to maintain a close working relationship, creating a highly qualified workforce that now have the opportunity to develop and progress. Catering and Hospitality Manager Nick Crofts-Smith attended the award ceremony in London and explained that, “Rotherham College of Arts and Technology’s relationship with the unions, staff and management at Pennine foods has developed over a number of years and has been built on trust and openness. It is a great honour for the college to be recognised by unionlearn for our work in this area.” The award was presented by popular TV star, comedian and novelist Jo Brand who said, '"I know through my time working as a psychiatric nurse that learning benefits not only people's confidence and their careers, but also their health. So I'm pleased today to be supporting the TUC's unionlearn, which has made such a difference to workplace learning.'
