Barista Competition

Catering and Hospitality students recently took part in an in-house Barista competition in the College’s Wharncliffe restaurant.

Each entrant had 15 minutes practice time followed by a further 15 minutes to prepare and make 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos and 4 of their own signature speciality drinks. They were scored with official marking criteria by David Veal from Café Sienna along with fellow judges, former student Nick Challinor and Level 3 kitchen student Connaire Moran. The top 3 students (Carl Fleischer, Jess Hooper and Jason Childs) were awarded prizes in a ceremony which took place at the end of the day and will go on to represent the College in the northern heat of the National Barista Championships on Wednesday 18th February 2009 in Newcastle. Good luck to all three of them.
