Business enterprise students win business award
BTEC National Certificate in Business students had tremendous success recently after winning the Rotherham Youth Enterprise Business Plan Competition.
The team of five (Tamsin Bedford, Jade Thompson, Hannah Bullock, Laura Bullock and Adeel Akram) presented their pitch to a total of 21 judges throughout the day, detailing their proposed business plan for a new retail unit within Rotherham. Their idea focused around the plans for a new “retro candy shop” named ‘Bittersweet’ which would include products which would be low in sugar and fat. The group’s presentation referred to the ideas for their target audience, store location, promotion and store design and layout, all of which resulted in their pitch having the winning edge. After competing against eight other local schools/colleges, ‘Bittersweet’ came first place winning the group prize of £400 worth of Meadowhall vouchers, creating the second win in a row for the College within the last two years. The vouchers were presented to the winners during a ceremony at the College’s Town Centre Campus attended by Leslie Ellis from Rotherham Youth Enterprise along with College Principal George Trow who explained that the students were “a credit to the College” and “great examples of how the youth of today can demonstrate their skills and ideas.” The College has had many great successes within enterprise education which recently included 50 of its learners from Art & Design, Hair and Beauty and Animal Care courses all achieving the Level 2 Award in Enterprise Capabilities alongside their main programmes of study. The College was recognised for demonstrating good practice during an Ofsted enterprise inspection and also recently achieved the Warwick Award in Enterprise Education.
