Community Education Resource

We have a range of ICT courses available

If you have never used a computer before we have friendly staff that will make learning an enjoyable and fun experience. We also have a range of accredited courses so you can concentrate on whatever interests you, such as Word Processing for an interest in creative writing or Databases so you can be the smart one who everyone comes to and asks for help!

Come and learn in one of our ICT learning spaces which offer internet access, current software and hardware. Each centre has a digital camera, flatbed scanners and colour printers. We can offer learning on laptops in many other locations.

Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL

We offer a range of courses to help adults improve their reading, writing and numeracy skills. Learners can work towards their own targets or gain nationally recognised qualifications. Literacy and numeracy workshops can be found at a number of venues including Flash Lane Community centre on Tuesday and Friday mornings and also at the Fitzwilliam Centre, Eastwood, on Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. We offer ESOL classes at St Ann’s Community Room on Monday and Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings and at the Fitzwilliam Centre on Tuesday mornings. Our courses are also available through Cedr workshops linking literacy, numeracy and ESOL to a variety of subjects, such as card making, garment making, flower arranging, IT, community development, women’s group studies and even allotment management!

Training for the Voluntary and Community Sector

Cedr provides a range of accredited and non-accredited training to groups within the sector; courses include time and stress management, supervision and appraisal skills, project management, governance skills, community development, professional presentation skills and counselling. Cedr also provides a broker service for groups with their own funding who would like assistance with sourcing and managing tutors/classes. Contact us for more details.

Choices

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18, live anywhere in Rotherham, do not have a place at college or training or have not yet found a job and are not sure what to do next or not sure about what college courses or jobs you might be interested in or able to do. The Choices programme may just be the answer.

Evening Programme

Why not join one of our evening classes in Mediterranean or Asian cookery, introduction to watercolours, yoga, salsa, crafts aromatherapy, image manipulation or pet care.

Cedr Community Creche Service

Where possible, daytime learning groups are supported by free childcare for children under five. The provision is staffed by fully qualified, registered and experienced childcare workers.

Cedr childcare workers provide a safe and positive environment in which children can play and learn together whilst their carers learn. Community and voluntary groups who require childcare support when providing learning activities can use the Cedr Community Crèche service. Cedr Learning Spaces at Eastwood and Rawmarsh

Come and learn with us in one of our ICT Learning Spaces. The centres are staffed by our friendly team of Community Learning Advisors and offer internet access, current software/ hardware, digital cameras, scanners and colour printers. Watch out for our regular coffee events where you can pop in and have a chat. Come to “The Learning Space at Fitzwilliam on Fitzwilliam Road, Eastwood which offers training from creative courses to computers to counselling. This centre has an Ofsted registered crèche and is great for those of you who want to learn in a friendly relaxed atmosphere of a local centre where everyone is welcome.

Come to “The Learning Space at Rosehill Park” where you can enjoy IT courses for beginners and the more experienced computer users, as well as a range of creative courses including flower arranging and card crafts. Learn new skills, gain confidence and have fun at the same time in the beautiful setting of Rosehill Park. The computer courses on offer include internet and email, word processing, desk top publishing, family history and much more!
