TOWN CENTRE CAMPUS REDEVELOPMENT
Rotherham College of Arts & Technology are investing £59million to create a "landmark", unified town centre campus within a highly visible location.
The current design proposals have been completed to an advanced RIBA Work Stage C by Bond Bryan Architects and represent a college campus of circa 20 250 square metres new build facility. The proposals also includes extensive external works, public realm space and car parking.
The current cost plan indicates a construction cost of circa £44million excluding professional fees, ff&e and VAT, which is in line with the published LSC Cost Models.
An Outline Town Planning application has been submitted in consideration of access, massing and location. The Outline application was submitted to give greater certainty on size and massing, and also to allow the necessary road closure of Morpeth Street to be progressed. The Outline application is expected to be considered at the council's July planning committee meeting.
The College are currently confirming the appointment of a full design team to progress and complete detailed design from RIBA Work Stage D onwards. The appointment of the design team will allow the college to progress a detailed Reserved Matters Town Planning application, a 2 stage main contractor design and build tender and a detailed funding application to the LSC National Capital Committee.
Application in Principle funding was approved by the LSC National Capital Committee at the 29th April 2008 committee meeting. The Detailed Funding Application is to be submitted to the LSC for consideration in early 2009.
Completion of the project is anticipated in 2 phases, with student occupation scheduled for September 2011 and 2013 respectively.
