Art and Design student has ‘art’ of gold

A student at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology has struck gold after landing herself a place at one of England’s top art schools.
Jing Tan, (18), has lived in South Yorkshire for the past four years and came to Rotherham College of Arts and Technology following her dream of digital art.
After studying on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the College, Jing has secured a place at Goldsmith University of London, one of the country’s top universities for the arts and humanities.
Jing has been accepted to study BSc Hons Creative Computing where the course will help prepare her for a career in the technology-led creative sector of the media industries. The course will develop her, not just as a technical expert, but also as a creative thinker.
Jing said: “Moving to England from China and studying at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology has allowed me to be more creative and has given me more freedom with my ideas. England is a creative country and I am so excited to be moving to London to study.”
The Art and Design student has already had some of her work published with a number of pieces being displayed in Rotherham town centre as part of Rotherham Partnership's Gallery Town Project and in addition Jing has designed the front cover for a Chinese magazine.
Her tutor, Richard Lyon said: Jing is an outstanding student with considerable talent, I am very proud of what she has achieved so far and for having the drive and ambition to pursue her dreams. She has produced some excellent artwork this year and I am sure she will excel in her course at Goldsmiths University of London”
The Foundation Diploma is a one year course which follows Level 3 and is ideal for those students who want to progress on to a degree level qualification in art and design. The course comprises of a series of studio projects, lectures and organised visits.
