With programmes such as The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den featuring more and more on our televisions, there has been an increase in students that are turning to self-employment as a way forward in their careers.
Daniel Roddis has completed his first year studying an HND in IT and has already got a head start in his career after successfully starting his own business up.
Daniel has a clear passion for IT and computing and so he decided to turn his hobby in to a career.
Daniel and some of his college friends have started their own web-design business up called Design Wire Solutions and in addition, he’s set up his own online gaming forum called Paranoid Scopes.
The gaming site has already attracted the attention of major gaming developers, as Daniel explained: “The gaming developers, Rebellion, approached me and offered to sponsor a gaming tournament through our website which is a really great opportunity.
“We have already looked a business premise ready to properly launch our web-design service, so it’s all go at the moment.”
Daniel also helped create a website for Sheffield University, where he worked alongside their business students to revamp their section of the website.
Talking about Rotherham College, Daniel said: “Rotherham College has given the skills needed to start-up my own web-design company. The vocational aspect of the course gave me a good mix of learning alongside practical work.”
