The Foundation Degree in Performing Arts: Music offers students the opportunity to study at the Roland Music Academy, using the latest industry standard equipment. Students also take part in the master classes offered within the academy where industry experts share their skills and knowledge.
Summary of programme The course is designed to give learners skills relating to their chosen career pathway within the music industry and vocational training is underpinned with academic learning. There are opportunities for collaborative work and performances with other performers and artistes from the academy and students are encouraged to fully develop their personal and individual skills. The Roland Music Academy seeks to be innovative and creative and explore a range of dimensions in the world of music and music technology.
There is ongoing assessment throughout the course using written and practical assignments. The College has its own studio theatre which is equipped to a high specification and regular performances take place before a range of audiences including the general public. Foundation Degree students will be involved in live and recorded performances and these will form part of the assessment process.
Entry requirements Entrants to the programme should normally possess the following:
Either: A minimum of two years’ relevant work experience and a current role in an appropriate workplace setting, and a line manager’s letter of support and recommendation
Or: A minimum of one pass at A-level or 6-unit Vocational A-level, plus three passes at GCSE (grades A–C), or O-level (grades A–C) normally including Mathematics and English Language a National Certificate or Diploma or other equivalent qualifications, such as GNVQ/NVQ or other Level 3 vocational qualifications
What you can progress to Upon successful completion of the programme, you will have a number of opportunities for progression:
Into employment within the creative industry or further study by progressing onto the final year of one of the Sheffield Hallam University honours degree programmes.
