Ikrah Ramzan is a perfect example of an apprentice who has demonstrated progression and personal development since beginning the program as well as being an inspiration for school leavers who are looking to climb the career ladder.

In 2009 Ikrah was recruited through Rotherham College of Arts and Technology as a Business Administration Apprentice for Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. Her apprenticeship began after leaving school, enabling her to develop an early insight into a business environment.

Throughout her time with the council, Ikrah has had the opportunity to lend support to teams in a variety of sections within the Environment and Development Services Directorate of the council, gaining valuable knowledge and experience along the way.

When asked about her time as an apprentice Ikrah said, “I struggled at first to get used to the difference between being at school and a busy office environment but people were patient and supportive so I quickly picked up new skills and got into the work routine.”

Ikrah attended Rotherham College of Arts and Technology for half a day per week as part of her apprenticeship in order to study for a Level 2 in Business Administration.

In 2010 Ikrah was successful in securing a permanent position as a Business Administration Assistant after competing against many other candidates throughout the interview process. Ikrah’s apprenticeship experience is one she is keen to recommend to others.

"I was amazed and delighted when I got this job especially at this current difficult time. I would recommend being an apprentice to anyone as you get to learn and gain experience at the same time.”
